THE BEST SWEETS WE ATE IN OCTOBER
October is unofficially candy month, and we did eat our fair share of low to high brow candy. (We’re equal opportunity candy-ists).
But the best sweets we ate weren’t necessarily candy; we had a crazy modernist meringue ball, jam worth crossing state lines for, and some awesome sponge cake.

PB&J Meringue at Blue Smoke, NYC
“This hedgehog-looking creation is not a work of conceptual art; it’s actually a PB&J meringue at at Blue Smoke, a Danny Meyer barbecue restaurant I visited for a special Ommegang beer and barbecue pairing dinner a few weeks ago. I’m glad I didn’t stuff myself on ‘cue, though, because I would have missed out on this glorious dessert, which is filled with scoops of peanut butter ice cream and Concord grape granita. It’s as much fun to eat as it is to look at.”—Jamie Feldmar, Managing Editor
